Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty already leads PC sales

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. has announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has reached a share of first day sales of more than 1 million copies worldwide, making it the best selling PC game of 2010 in the first 24 hours after sale. The game has sold 1.5 million copies in its first 48 hours, setting a record as the strategy game that has sold faster than ever.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has been released simultaneously in North America, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao on 27 July. More than 10,000 stores around the world opened their doors at midnight to celebrate the release, the developers of Blizzard Entertainment in several regions attended to commemorate the event with the players and sign copies of the game.

“We launched StarCraft II in 11 different languages and on five continents because we wanted to make sure as many players as possible are recorded and played from the first day,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We are pleased that so many people around the world already has built a copy of the game, and we hope to welcome even more players Battle.net in the weeks and months ahead.”

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is the sequel to the highly successful 1998 Blizzard Entertainment, StarCraft, players and critics around the world have hailed as one of the best games of RTS of all time. StarCraft II, with a 3D graphics engine, new and spectacular, will try again on the clashes between the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. Each side will employ armies of veteran units, upgraded or completely new. Blizzard Entertainment will offer an online gaming experience unparalleled thanks to the new version of Battle.net, the game service company known worldwide. Battle.net has been redesigned from scratch to become the mainstay of online game for players of Blizzard, with new or improved features such as voice communication, file storage in the cloud, leagues and hierarchies, achievements, monitoring statistics and more.

The single player campaign of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty picks up the saga where he finished StarCraft: Brood War. The plot follows the adventures of Jim Raynor, marshal become leader of a rebellion, and contains new heroes and familiar faces. Players can customize their experience by choosing missions and research and technology improvements that best suit your style of play through 29 missions of the campaign.
